jan 1, 1914 - Continuity and Change Over Time: (Topic 7.6):Labor, Minorities, and Women during World War I.

Description:

• Labor:
During World War I, there was a large demand for workers as many men went to fight in the war. This created job opportunities for many, including women and minorities. Labor unions also grew stronger, and workers were able to demand better pay and working conditions. Many workers were needed to produce goods for the war effort, such as weapons and supplies.

• Minorities:
Many African Americans moved from the South to the North in what is called the Great Migration. They sought jobs in factories and wanted to escape the harsh conditions in the South. Native Americans also served in the military and worked in factories. However, they still faced discrimination and racism. Despite this, World War I brought some opportunities for minorities to improve their lives.

• Women:
Women played a vital role in World War I. As men went off to fight, women took over jobs in factories, offices, and other industries. They also worked as nurses and in other support roles for the military. Their contributions helped prove that women could do the same jobs as men. This led to changes in women’s rights, including the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which gave women the right to vote.
