Description:

Theodore Roosevelt's policy was called "Big Stick Diplomacy", which was that the U.S. should have strong military and navy, in which the US had the Greatest Navy at that time to show power, but use peaceful talks and negotiations. Roosevelt wanted the U.S. to be involved in global affairs, especially in the Western Hemisphere. He believed that the U.S. should take charge in maintaining order in Latin America.

Roosevelt Corollary:
In 1904, Roosevelt added to Monroe Doctrine by saying that the U.S. would intervene in Latin American countries if needed, to keep European nations from interfering. he called this the Roosevelt Corollary. It meant the U.S.would act as a "policemen" in the Western Hemisphere.

Open Door Diplomacy (Mckinley):
The Open Door Policy was created during William Mckinley's presidency in 1899. It aimed to allow all countries to trade with China, without any one country controlling Chinese trade. This policy was important because many European countries and Japan wanted to divide China into " spheres of influence", where each country would control trade in a specific area of china. The U.S. wanted equal access to China's markets, so they pushed for the Open Door Policy.

Panama Canal:
Theodore Roosevelt wanted to build a canal across Panama to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Making trade and travel faster.
In 1903, Roosevelt helped Panama gain independence from Colombia. In return, Panama allowed the U.S. to build the Panama Canal.The Canal was finished in the 1914 and become a vital link for trade and military movement between the two oceans.
