The first internal combustion engine was invented in 1859 by French chemist and engineer Lenoir. The invention was “a two-stroke internal combustion engine.”(Ref. 1). This invention had a economic impact as it was a stepping stone into more powerful machinery and was readily used in France and Europe for pumps and printing presses.
