jun 13, 1971 - Pentagon Papers

Description:

The New York Times publishes the Pentagon Papers on the front page, which outlines US involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1968, including top secret, classified information that was previously unknown to the public, including increases in conflict created by the Nixon administration. This document was created by Daniel Ellsberg, an American political activist and United States military analyst, who is later charged in 1973 under the Espionage Act. His charges are eventually dismissed due to government misconduct and illegal evidence-gathering.

At this point, American distrust in its government is drastically increased creating a ripple that continues today.
