apr 29, 1970 - Cambodian campaign
Description:
Following his declaration to begin removing US troops from Vietnam, Nixon announces an order for US troops to invade Cambodia in response to the Communist Party of Kampuchea's (CPK), better known as the Khmer Rouge, efforts to unite Cambodia against the US and South Vietnam's efforts. This helps to ignite a civil war in the future leading to a genocide under Pol Pot.
This was met with severe backlash as Nixon was able to avoid asking Congress for permission and, instead, went ahead with the action anyway. Additionally, Cambodia was recognized as a "safe-zone" due to their neutrality during the Vietnam War.
