jun 19, 1912 - Stark Offers Lenox

Description:

After a month of bartering and public outcry from the New York Society for Parks and Playgrounds, objecting to construction of any kind happening in the park, Isaac Stark comes to an agreement with the city and the Society. Stark would buy from James Higgins the derelict Progress Club property at 820 Fifth Ave across from the Central Park Zoo, and have the Lenox Library moved to that site, at which time he would lease the building to the city as offices for the Parks Department and for the Society.
