mar 1, 407 - Constantine III Leaves Britain

Description:

Constantine III crosses the Channel at Bononia, taking with him all of the 6,000 mobile troops left in Britain. This denuded Roman Britain of front-line military protection, leaving only the frontier troops in the north. Upon arrival the troops of Gaul and the Quinque Provinciae accept his rule without conflict. As he advances into Gaul, the provincial governors of Hispania also recognize him. He marches to Lyon to take the praetorian prefecture there. Established, he merges his British and Gaulish troops, establishes order, and marches north towards Trier and the barbarian encampments on the Rhine.
