jan 1, 1950 - 6.12 causation The government policies in the Gilded Age.

Description:

Beside the rise of the industrial capitalism, the Gilded age is also known for its political corruption. The government of the US at this time used the lassie fair policy which is basically hands off. The governmen did not really pay attention to tindustries. The government was hands off when it came to regulation of industries and kind of hands on during the homestead act which granted land to railroads. So the government was basically did not try for regulation but in fact when it comes to helping out the big businesses, the government would help. The two main platforms at this time were the Republicans and the democrats. The Republicans who were pro businesses, wanted higher protective tariffs and wanted the industries to grow a lot. Their support base was the bankers, those were in industries and mostly rich people. Meanwhile the democrats were seeking for silver coinage and worked for mostly poor people and immigrants. They were supported by the farmers, poor southerners ,immigrants who were working in factories. During this time, the next party was the populist party or the party of people. The party was working for poor farmers and poor laborers, they wanted silver coinage, and wanted the government to be more involved in the regulation of industries. However the platform was not successful and did not make it to the white house. Also, it is important to mention that political platforms used political machines to gain votes. Both Republicans and democrats distributed food, clothing, services for immigrants and poor people in exchange of their votes, the most noticeable to mention is the tammany hall.
