jan 1, 1935 - 6.7: caustaion labor in the gilded age

Description:

During the Gilded Age which was the rise of industrial capitalism, workers were struggling and suffering in the factories and industries in which they worked. Workers wanted better working conditions, shorter working hours, higher wages. So, laborers formed labor unions in order to fight and achieve these goals. The most important unions to name are national labor union founded in 1866, the knights of labor and the American federation of labor. These unions worked hard for better working conditions for the workers, 8 hours work time per day and higher wages. They usually went on strikes, but at this time the government was using the laissez Faire policy which basically means hands off. Big businesses also didn't like labor unions and their strikes, so they used ways such as signing contract with the laborer not to join the unions, giving the name of union workers to other companies so that they could never been hired. Using national guards which are basically the government guards to.
Shut down the strikes, closing down the factories and bribing the government officials to win the court cases. During this time the workers struggled a lot and ultimately failed to big businesses. There were higher risks of safety in the working area, and they were afraid of going to strikes, because the factories might hire someone who would work less than an average worker so that worker would risk of losing his job.
