oct 1, 1937 - Parsley Massacre
Description:
in October of 1937, Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo was thought to have ordered the killing of 20,000 Haitians. In areas near the Haiti-DR border, soldiers would hold up parsley and ask what it was - if the person in question didn’t roll the “r” in perejil, they were thought to speak Haitian Creole and were killed.
