jun 6, 1918 - Info on Countee Cullen's Father

Description:

Frederick Cullen was a black activist minister who established the Salem Methodist Episcopal Church on his arrival to New York City in 1902. Eventually, the growth of the church allowed him to move the Church site towhere the former white church of harlem was located. This caused a blooming growth within the church claming to have over twenty-five hundred members.

Although Cullen was taken in by the minister, some of Cullen's views opposed a lot of his fathers views. Many also believe that Cullen may have gotten his 'traits' from his father due to him having effeminate characteristics. Frederick Cullen.

"He was dressed in girl's clothing by his poverty-stricken mother well beyond the acceptable boyhood age for such transvestism."
