On September 29th 1996, the Nintendo 64 was released. It was the Super Nintendo Entertainment System's supposed successor and was Nintendo's first 3D console. The Nintendo 64 was created to rival Sony's Playstation and the Sega Saturn. It successfully outsold the Sega Saturn, but continued to fall behind the Playstation. Within the first year, 3.6 million units were sold, and as of October 2024, 32.93 million units have been sold.Added to timeline:
