jan 1, 480 BC - Battle of Salamis
Description:
This was a naval battle fought between an alliance of Greek city states under Themistocles and King Xerxes Achaemenid Persian empire. The Greeks were drastically outnumbered but were able to win. This was because of the unorganised ships which came from Xerxes’ empire in the cramped waters of Salamis. The Greeks then lined up and achieved a victory after bombarding Xerxes ships.
