The Ionian’s were a group of Greek city states that inhabited the central and western coasts of Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). The Ionian invasion refers to the revolt against the Persian empire. It began when Aristagoras, a Tyrant in Miletus (one of the richest Ionian cities) received significant military aid from Athens and proceeded to attack the Persian garrisons in their regions
