aug 1, 409 - Britain Defends Itself

Description:

Honorius sends a letter, addressed to the "Cities of Britain", informing them that the Empire would be unable to support them while they contended with barbarians elsewhere, and that until the Legions could return, they were given permission to look to their own defense. That despite Constantine III's rebellion, they were still a part of the Empire. Distressed that Constantine had failed to defend them and encouraged that Honorius had not completely abandoned them, at the Concilium provinciae, the governors and chiefs of Britain expelled Constantine's officials.
