The Bering Sea conflict occurs between the United States and the USSR.During the conflict, an American freighter illegally entered Soviet territory in the Kara Sea, resulting in its crew being captured and held hostage by USSR authorities or military forces. The subsequent American response to the "Kara Sea Hostage Crisis" plunged the U.S. into an engagement known as the "Second Battle of the Bering Sea".
