Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905 Fighting over Manchuria and Port Arthur. Russia sends its Baltic Fleet half way around the world and the entire fleet is sunk at the battle of Tsushima. Ends with the "Treaty of Portsmouth" 1905. It required Japan and Russia to remove troops from Manchuria and give it back to China. It granted Japan the right to lease the Russian-built South Manchurian Railway from China. It granted Japan the Southern half of Sakhalin Island.

Washington Naval Conference 1921-22 Large Battleship construction is halted for 10 years. Certain battleships were to be scrapped. Ship building ration of 5:5:3 for US: Great Britain: Japan. US and Britain agree not to build fortifications in the Pacific (except for Pearl Harbor in Hawaii)
London Naval Conference 1908-1909 Ship building ration is adjusted to 10:10:7. Japan’s Prime Minister was shot in response to having signed the treaty.
Marco Polo Bridge Incident Jul 7, 1937 – Jul 9, 1937 Battle between China's National Revolutionary Army and the Imperial Japanese Army. A small Japanese force on maneuvers near the Marco Polo Bridge demanded entry to the tiny walled town of Wanping in order to search for one of their soldiers.
