1 ene 1502 año - First African slaves reported in the New world
Descripción:
Spanish Settlers brought the first African slaves. Juan de Córdoba of Seville is the first Spanish merchant identified to have sent African slaves to the New world.
Spanish settlers began bringing African slaves in the places that they settled particularly in Santa Domingo, the current capital of the Dominican Republic. The African slave trade became more popular, which prompted the ruling class to act. The King of Spain, Charles 1 orders slaves to be transported directly from Africa to its colonies in the Americas. The Crown controlled the trade, thus, he sold the rights to import the African slaves to entrepreneurs. These traders would in return supply African states with arms, which they could use to fend off their enemies and to maintain control and power in their respective regions . Such aspects, therefore, made the trade in slaves to become more popular since there was mutual benefit.(Image: https://drumsintheglobalvillage.com/tag/trans-atlantic-slave-trade/)
