Beschreibung:

Lt. General Ulysses Grant was able to achieve and command with the prestigious title of Lt. General, in which only George Washington held the title. Grant studied and graduated from West Point and was assigned to fight in the Mexican war between 1847 and 1848. In addition, Grant served and fought on the American frontier. This allowed him to acquire a very crucial experience of logistics and supplying troops which would aid him in the future. At the beginning of the Civil War, Grant was not in the army, however, after Fort Sumter had fallen, he decided to re-enlist and was assigned to gather troops in Illinois. After this, he was appointed to colonel of the 21st Illinois, then was successful in defending a railroad in Missouri. Grant was then promoted to brigadier general and began his fight for the Union when he took Fort Henry and Fort Donelson in Tennessee. The campaign to capture Vicksburg was a major victory when took control of most of Tennessee and was promoted to Lt. General replacing Henry Halleck.
