Not many know that Canada is known for more than being the birthplace of insulin. It is a technological leader known for creating the well known touch-screen and artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence (or AI for short) was invented when Geoffrey Hinton (professor at the U of t and Senior Research Scientist at the Google Brain Team) invented the method from 1982-1987 ,that most of today's autonomous cars, robots and even Apple's Siri use. The algorithm, called Backpropagation is the main component in Machine Learning Neural Networks including Recursive Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks. Another Canadian Computer Scientist, Yoshua Bengio is notable for his research in Deep Learning, Neural Language Translation and much more making him the 'Father of Deep Learning'. Now, Canada (especially Montreal) is the 'Hub' of machine learning since tech giants (including Google and Facebook) make their home for AI research in this city. In fact, Facebook AI Research's lead scientist Yann LeCun was a student of Geoffrey Hinton, making Canadian AI even sweeter than Maple Syrup.
