The camps were made because Japan had attacked pearl harbour declaring war.The government afforded the camps and the social workers by selling all of the property that the Japanese Canadians could not bring with them. The camps were overcrowded and had no electricity or running water. The Canadian government forced Japanese Canadians to leave their homes and move to these camps that were in "ghost towns" in the interior of B.C. This was a dark time in Canadian history and we can now learn from the mistakes we made.
