Beschreibung:
Banting, Best and MacLeod
Frederick Banting, Charles Best, and John MacLeod were scientists at the University of Toronto responsible for the discovery of insulin on July 30, 1921. James Bertram Collip, a biochemist from the University of Alberta, was added to the team to purify Banting and Best’s crude and extracts. On January 11, 1922 the team finally began their tests on a human. The subject, 14-year-old Leonard Thomas who was dying from diabetes was injected with the crude. The initial test failed, however 12 days later January 23, 1922 the test proved to be successful and Leonard Thomas was saved. The discovery was not only crucial to the development of Canada, but also to the world. This discovery helped grow Canada to what is now an industry leader.
