Nullification Crisis (19 St. 28 Min, 8 Jan 1830 Jahr – 21 St. 59 Min, 4 Jun 1833 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
A high protective tariff was signed into law by the US government. South Carolinians - specifcally John C. Calhoun strongly diagreed with the high tariffs and felt that they targeted the South unfairly. South Carolina nullified the federal law, calling it uncounstitutional until a "Force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the state to make sure the law was followed. A compromise took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the U.S government lowered the tax. The U.S Government would not send troops if South Carolina Agreed to pay this lowered tax.
