Cognitive Development: Surface Level reading: 7 Years At this stage I am around 7 years old and I am in 2nd grade at my elementary school CTA Liberty. I am learning to read at this point. Normally as the title suggest, this is surface level and I don't attach much meaning to what I am getting out of the text.
Cognitive Development: Deep Level Reading: 8-9 Years I have mastered surface level reading at this age and now I am reaching the phase of deeper level reading. I am at the same school and the teacher assignes high level reading assignments. At this age children normally read to learn as oppose to learning to read as shown in surface level reading.
Cognitive Development Excellence in mathematics (9-10 Years) My teacher in 4th grade assigns a time assignment where I must answer 100 questions in a certain time frame. She tells our class that guys normally finish before the girls. Taking this knowledge into mind, I am motivated to out pace everyone. I was pretty good at these assignments. While it is frowned upon to stereotype math skills by gender, it turns out boys and girls have similar skills in math.
Social Emotional Development 10 years old At this age in my life, I begin to take other types of traits into considerations. This is natural because at an earlier age, I made friends that were similar and especially those who lived close by. Now that I am a little wiser, I begin to notice differences in the friends I make and at a later age, I will value my loyalty and intimacy more.
Social Emotional Development under 10 years old I don't take my brother's food in fear that my parents will scold at me. This is based off of Kohlberg's 6 stages of moral dilemma. This is quite normal for kids under 10 to avoid personal punishment. I am in the preconventional stage at this point.
Social Emotional Development 12 years old I am almost at the end of my middle childhood and I notice that some people are really liked but also disliked. Now I now that this is classified under as controversial. Controversial are kids that can be greatly liked as best friends but they can also be disliked. This is a grey area between the spectrum of rejected and popular kids.
Physical Motor Development: 11 years: I finally lose all of my baby teeth and my adult teeth begin to settle in! This means that I need to take very good care of my teeth. This is completely normal because this is a skeletal growth result. Losing all the baby teeth shows signs that puberty is around the corner.
Physical/Motor Skills: At this age, I have a refined my usage in both motor and gross motor skills. I have achieved confidence and competence in utilizing these skills. This best example of this is my music teacher making my class learn the recorder. I actually was one of the best in the classroom and I like to give my developed find motor skills credit for being able to hit the notes so well
Non Normative I had a tough time with transitivity at this age. I understand that transitivity involves making deductive reasoning but this was a big struggle for me. For example, I couldn't come to the conclusions that if the Suns beat the Warriors, and the Warriors beat the Thunder, that the Suns could beat the Thunder. This ability of transitivity is something that I lacked.
