In 2011, Google releases the Chromebook, a laptop that runs Google Chrome OS.
In 2015, Microsoft releases Windows 10.
In 1936 Alan Turing published his paper "On Computable Numbers, with an application to the Entscheidungsproblem" which served as a major base for the invention of the computer.
In 1937, J.V. Atanasoff, a professor at Iowa State University, attempts to make the first computer without gears, cams, belts or shafts.
In 1941, Atanasoff and his graduate student, Clifford Berry, design a computer that can solve 29 equations simultaneously. This is the first computer that can store information on it's main memory.
In 1958, Jake Kilby and Robert Noyce show the integrated circuit, commonly called the computer chip. Kilby received a Nobel Prize in Phsyics for his work.
Douglas Engelbart shows prototype of the modern computer, featuring a mouse and a graphical user interface(GUI). This signified a change from computers being simply for specialized math and science to being accessible by the general public in 1964.
In 1970, newly formed intel invents the Intel 1103, the first Dynamic Access Memory (DRAM) chip.
In 1971, Alan Shugart and a team of IBM engineers invent the "floppy disk", which allows data to be shared among computers.
In 1973, Robert Metcalfe creates Ethernet for connecting multiple computers and other hardware.
In 1975, Paul Allen and Bill Gates, after successfully writing software for BASIC, formed Microsoft, their own software company.
On April Fools Day, 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak form Apple Computers and release the Apple I, the first computer with a single-circuit board.
In 1977, Wozniak and Jobs show the Apple II at the first West Coast Computer Faire, including color graphics and incorporating an audio cassette drive for storage.
In 1981, the first IBM personal computer, code-named Acorn, is introduced. It features an Intel chip, two floppy disks, and an optimal color monitor. This also marks the first time outside distributors like Sears were able to sell computers, and popularized the term PC.
In 1983, Apple's Lisa is the first personal computer with a GUI. It features the flip form and is portable, which makes it the first laptop.
In 1985, Microsoft responded to Apple's laptop with the announcement of Windows. Commodre releases the Amiga 1000, which features advanced audio and video capabilities.

In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee developed the HTML system, giving rise to the World Wide Web.
In 1994, PC's became gaming machines as games began to be released on the PC.
In 1996, Sergey Brin and Larry Page develop Google the search engine at Stanford University.
In 1999, the term Wi-Fi becomes common as it connects the internet without wires.
In 2001, Apple reveals the Mac OS X operatihg system, which features protected memory architecture, multi-tasking features. Microsoft then released Windows XP, with redesigned GUI.
In 2004, Mozilla released Firefox as a competitor to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Facebook was also launched in that year.
In 2006, Apple releases the Macbook Pro, it's first Intel-based, dual-core mobile computer.
In 2007, the iPhone is released, bringing many computer functions to the smartphone.
In 2009, Microsoft launches Windows 7, featuring the ability to pin things to a taskbar.
