Major Event 2: A screening of The Dark Knight Rises at the Century 16 theater in Aurora, Colorado on July 20 was interrupted by James Holmes, who set off smoke bombs before proceeding to shoot four weapons worth of ammunition into the theater audience. There were 10 casualties and many more injuries. Holmes was given a life sentence without parole.
