Beschreibung:
Clara and her family go news that a Russian Boy was killed recently. He was murdered by Jews. Clara's father, Papa, started to nail boards to every one of their windows. Papa was very angry.
Awhile later, the church bells started ringing. The pogrom had begun. Mama told all the kids to go. "Go!" "Go to the woods---hide!" their mom whispered to all of the kids. They had to all stay hidden until they were called back. The woods were filled with many children. Jewish people were being murdered and their houses were being burned. Clara had so many questions she did know why they were hiding or if their house was being burned. Their Papa told Clara and her family that they had to go to America. They would take a seaport across the continent to New York. Clara gathers thing such as clothes because she knows there will be books in America that she can get and learn things with.
