In the year 1998, Ronaldinho aged 18 signs his first professional contract with Brazil side Grêmio, one of the most celebrated teams in the Brazil League. Ronaldinho made his senior debut for Grêmio in the 1998 Copa Libertadores tournament. This was the official start of his professional playing career.
