15 Feb 1965 Jahr - Canadian flag (Zoe)
Beschreibung:
The new flag was to "avoid the use of racial symbols that have a divisive nature" and it was "ill-advised to have use of the Union Jack or the fleur-de-lis". George Stanley created a flag design that followed this advice. He was able to give it to the flag committee via a friend of his, and it got into the top 3 and was chosen after the committee agreed that the other flags had too many fleurs-de-lis. The flag was approved by the House of Commons on December 15, 1964, and was to take effect on February 15, 1965. The official flag raising was on Parliament Hill and the design has lasted for more than half a century.
