In 1965 the 18th Prime Minister, Lester B Pearson and the house of commons did not want to have the Union Jack on their Nation Flag. They wanted to change because they wanted to show the world that they are a separate country. Canadians were deeply divided on the flag issue. Some felt a strong attachment to the mother country (England) and its Union Jack. Others disagreed on what new symbol should represent the country.It was only in Quebec that the flag issue provoked little more than a lack of interest.
