He lost his case of being free of slavery. He had been living as a slave in a free state but the court did not look his petition because he didn't own any property.
This cause to the lead up of the civil because the slaves were not treated as people and they now had federal laws that discriminated against them. This got them more upset and made them fight for their rights.
