15 Apr 1823 Jahr - First Canal Built
Beschreibung:
In 1823, the thirty Irish that had arrived in what would soon be Lowell, built the first canal of that area. This was a very big event because it started to ball rolling for many more canals to be made, which would serve as water power for the mills. The Irish lived off of 75 cents a day, and crowded into small areas of shacks and tents called “paddy camp lands” which later turned into the “Acre”, a gateway neighborhood where immigrants from all around the world later came to live in.
