Through blood and iron the German Empire was united on January 18, 1871. Through wars against Denmark, Austria, and France, Prussia conquered the German speaking states of Europe. On January 18, 1871 the German princes met in the Hall of Mirrors of the Palace of Versailles and the German Empire was founded.
