7 Aug 1937 Jahr - Nantucket Sea Monster Hoax

Fishermen off the coast of Nantucket Island reported seeing a large sea serpent in the sea. Local newspapers printed the story and a few days later, large footprints were found in the sand. Soon afterward, the sea serprent washed ashore, only to be discovered to be a huge balloon created by puppeteer Tony Sarg. The hoax brought a great deal of positive publicity to Nantucket.
