Not to be outdone by Coolidge’s odd choice in pets, Hoover’s son had two pet alligators, who also ran around the White House grounds.Hoover and his wife lived in China for a time and would speak Mandarin in the White House when they wanted to have a private conversation.
Rumor has it that Hoover requested his servants be “invisible.” Their choices: jump into closets to hide when Hoover entered a room or be fired.
