Pentagon Papers (1 янв 1945 г. – 1 янв 1967 г.)

Описание:

“You have a row of dominoes set up; you knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is that it will go over very quickly.” President Dwight D. Eisenhower; April 7, 1954.

Many people and groups were involved with the secret project later known as the "Pentagon Papers". Robert McNamara was the secretary of defense at the time of this project. Danny Ellsberg was a military analyst that opposed the war in Vietnam but was one of the closest people that was working on the project, he also leaked the papers to The New York Times. Lyndon B. Johnson was the last president to lie about involvement in Vietnam. Richard Nixon was up for reelection during the time, didn’t go well. “The Plumbers” were a white house team that broke into places in order for Nixon to win.

The pentagon papers were papers that revealed the truth about American involvement in Vietnam to the public. This incident happened from 1945 to 1967. The papers were written in the United States, but they were written about Vietnam and the situations that were happening there. They were released to the public so that people would oppose to the war more.

American Escalation and Failure:
Once the papers were released, American citizens had feelings of betrayal. They were completely lied to about involvement in the war. Sending supplies to aid in communism was one thing, but sending military to fight against the north was a much worse thing. As American citizens' feelings of anger festered more and more, support for the war was recalled and the government was left in a tough position.
