The February Revolution, named so for its occurrence mid-March, was a revolution in Russia that eventually lead to the overthrow of the Tsardom. It began with peasants protesting over the rationing of bread, however the demonstrations turned violent and became riots. The dissatisfied Russian Army then took part in the revolt, leading to the overthrow of the Tsar and the institution of the Provisional government, and a period of political instability in the new Soviet Union. Additionally, Russia negotiated surrender with Germany after the revolution, and would not take part in the rest of the war.
