Louis Philippe accepted the constitutional charter, but did not answer popular demands for institutional change. An agrarian crisis in 1846 only deepened feelings of resentment towards the government, sparking a rebellion in 1848, resulting in Louis’s abdication. However, the broader differences within the liberal faction—those who advocated for limited reforms and those who advocated for more radical socialist based reforms.
