The Zhou conquered the Shang in 1046 BC establishing the Zhou Dynasty. Up until relatively recently the Zhou was thought to be the oldest confirmed Dynasty, and the beginning of Ancient Chinese Civilization due to a lack of archeological evidence confirming both the Shang and the Xia.
