The brother of al-Saffah, al-Mansur takes over after his death. al-Mansur oversaw the construction of the new capital city Baghdad, which consolidated power and increased Persian and mawali influence in the empire. In a further attempt to consolidate power, al-Mansur has Abu Muslim killed in 755, as he feels Abu Muslim's personal army and popularity are too large a threat to the empire. During this time, another event known as the Shu'ubiya Mut showcases an attempt by Persians to display superiority over Arabs through writings and culture, as well as translations.
