Stalin returned against the members of Communist Party, and launched the Great Purge in 1937. It’s a campaign that he activates to eliminate anyone who threatened his power. An estimation made by most experts, believing that about 750,000 people were killed or executed during the Great Purge, which shows that it’s a very brutal political campaign led by Joseph Stalin. Thousands of Bolsheviks who helped in the Revolution were also executed by Stalin, some were even sent to the labor camps for “crimes against the Soviet State.” During the Great Purge, he controls all the news media and any source of information. Stalin would not tolerate any sort of individual creativity. He uses propaganda involving different techniques to promote and portrait himself as a positive model of initiative and heroic labor. He not only controlled the media, but also the education to citizens, ranging from nursery schools to universities. Whoever questions the Communist Party will lose their job or face imprisonment. Stalin uses education as a tool to spread Communism and portrait himself as a very heroic leader. Lastly, he persecutes different religious group. The Russian Orthodox Church was the main target during the Great Purge. Many religious leaders were killed or sent to the labor camps, the police under the government even destroyed churches and synagogues. The Great Purge elapsed in 1938, Stalin finally achieves what he’ve been wanting for, the total control of Communist and Soviet government. This event was brutal, violent, and significance in a certain way. Joseph Stalin, later on, becomes the dictator of the country, but on the other hand, he was responsible for the deaths of people. During the Great Purge, the campaign killed innocent people, and creates an environment of mass paranoia and fear. The living quality was very nasty, and the labor camp was filled with people. This event emphasizes the importance of power and government. If the government purposely uses the abuse of power, then it might cause a huge negative impact in the society.
