Rome started under the control of a monarchy. The republic expanded until it covered most of the Mediterranean area. By expanding, many wars broke out, such as the punic wars. The republic of Rome was soon replaced by emperors, who were powerful military generals. Rome has a long period of peace known as the Pax Romana where many great philosophers and thinkers emerges with their ideas. Christianity spread throughout rome but it was not a product of Rome. The Greco-Roman religion was based on nature and many gods and goddesses. Rome fell when its empire split into two - the eastern Greek in Byzantine and the Western Latin, germanic Rome.
