recordings of the oral teachings of Jesus, were named after Jesus’ disciples Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, recorded around 70-100 C.E., and were viewed as a fulfillment of prophets in the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament).

The Gospels formed the foundation of the New Testament. These new scriptures were written in koine, a form of Greek used in everyday speech.
