Sengoku Era - Japan was divided into hundreds of different states. The warlord of each state was called daimyo. Daimyos tried to build up their little states to survive long. Women in the merchant class enjoyed greater freedom and rights than women in other societies. There was shogun but his power was weakened due to peasant revolts and betrayal of daimyos.
