A major culture shift at WVU happened between these years, powered mainly through the success of the Mountaineer football team coached by Don Nehlen. WVU had significant wins against No. 9 Oklahoma in 1982 and No. 4 Boston College in 1984; the year BC’s quarterback Doug Flutie won the Heisman trophy.
