Copernicus was a great astronomer who was ahead of his times. He popularized the heliocentric theory (the idea that the sun was at the center of the universe, greatly contrasting to the geocentric theory where the earth is in the center of the universe) through his book, On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres. Him publishing that book didn't really affect him that much (because he dies legit right afterwards) but it greatly effected the commoners by getting the knowledge of the natural philosophers out to the lower classes, giving them more of a reason to find an education.
