The Roman Republic was made up of many areas from the Meditteranean, Africa, and Europe. Its government consisted of two high-ranking consuls advised by a Senate of elites, known as patricians, and lower-ranking officials, known as tribunes, consisting of plebeians, or lower class individuals. The Republic was characterized by social tension between the patricians and plebeians.
