Luis de Moscoso Alvarado was on an expeditionlooking for gold under Hernan de Soto. When Soto died Moscoso took over the expedition but was also unsuccessful... Add 'em to the list.
Then he took the search for gold to East Texas where he, according to legend, was the first man to find oil in Texas.
