Описание:

Wax tablets were made of beeswax dyed black or red, enclosed in an outer layer of wooden boards. Similar to clay tablets, they were written on with a stylus and could be erased using the flat end of the stylus. Because they were easily erasable, they were more commonly used for note-taking or teaching rather than for record-keeping. Their use decreased when paper became more widely available and cheaper to produce during the 19th century, but their format heavily influenced the format of the codex.
