The Constitutional Convention was originally called to fix the Articles of Confederation; however, when it was looked at, everyone realized that they needed a new type of government. This led to the the creation of the Virginia Plan and New Jersey Plan, and then to the Great Compromise. In the end, they realized that they needed more power to the federal government to help control things and allow the country to operate smoothly.
